Michael Freitas

One of Rachael's first students, Mike started dancing at four years old with ballet because his older sister made it look so good.

At five, he started jazz, then continued recreationally in hiphop, lyrical, tap, acro, and more, acing examinations in jazz and tap along the way.

Mike also had the opportunity to start assisting teaching classes as early as ten years old.

Just before high school, Mike and his family made the move from Maple Ridge to Toronto, Ontario, where Mike attended school and started dancing competitively, winning multiple first-place awards and special awards for group dances, small groups, and solos.

Mike continued to assist in teaching classes in styles such as ballet, jazz, tap, hiphop, and acro, getting to teach combos and choreography of his own.

After graduating high school and leaving the competitive world, Mike started his Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts at OCAD University, Canada's largest art school, where he studied Creative Writing and Textiles.

Mike continued to dance at drop-in classes with renowned studios like The Underground Dance Centre and Studio North where he met many industry professionals and garnered many opportunities, having his own choreography featured in multiple films, events, and more.

Having lived in Toronto for almost a decade, Mike has visited home in Maple Ridge a few times, reconnecting with Rachael each time he went out there.

Having graduated university in April of 2026, Mike has come back to Maple Ridge to teach dance both competitively and recreationally.

Dance has always been a passion of Mike's, and he is dedicated to creating a warm, welcoming, and fun space to thrive in while working hard and making art.
