Rachael Harwood

Rachael started dance training at 4 years old but she was so shy she couldn’t continue and went back when she was 9! Rachael always felt this was “late” but loved it and immersed herself in as much dance as she could. She always knew the goal was to follow her passion to become a teacher.

Over the years, she trained in jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern, hip-hop and tap at two different studios - She fell in love with jazz and knew that was her passion. At age 14, Rachael started as a student teacher and then, upon further training became a certified jazz instructor as a young adult. Rachael has also taught dance fitness and taught at different community centres and studios around the lower mainland for over 15 years.

Rachael completed the Member Exam in the Stage Division for Jazz with the Canadian Dance Teachers Association in 2013 and has recently been an adjudicator for The Maple Ridge Arts Council.

Favorite memories of her dance career include learning the original "Thriller" choreography from Michael Jackson’s backup dancer, Eddie Garcia, (one of the zombies from “Thriller”) and dancing in the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies.

Rachael strives to pass on her love for dance while juggling a busy schedule as a dance teacher, business owner and mom.
